TANK - Mined Field Magazine.

Witness Appeal.

When Levi’s Engineered Jeans were first released in 1999, the brand approached TANK to create a brand new publication. The result was MINED (DENIM spelt backwards). The MINED issues were sewn-bound, the spine left exposed and the edges untrimmed – to read them, you had to cut open the pages. This binding slowed things down. It meant that each copy was unique, ripped and scuffed in its own way – a nod to Levi’s iconic cloth, designed to be worn in.

The images below were in the first edition. I set and retouched the typography on each of the witness appeal boards. Not a lot of people knew that if you called the phone number at the bottom of one of the boards, you would have gotten through to one of the creative directors - Brian Millar.
